You designed and implemented an advanced server infrastructure. As the business expands, it is important for the organization to automate the Windows deployment process. You need to use several desktop infrastructure technologies to automate the Windows deployment in the organizational desktops. To meet these requirements, you will create desktop infrastructure by setting up image capture and managing WDS and MDT in the enterprise network.

You will also configure DFSR server and SCCM, manage RD session host and connection manager, manage remote desktop gateway and web access to support OS deployment with optimized network performance. To ensure the smooth functioning of the desktop infrastructure implementation, you will configure desktops using the Lite-touch and Zero-touch deployments. In addition to these tasks, you will manage user state virtualization, implement user state migration, manage remote desktop gateway, configure RD virtualization host infrastructure, and manage desktop security options to create a centralized and secured data center. By familiarizing yourself with these tasks, you can plan and implement an effective Windows desktop infrastructure in your organization that suits the requirements of your business. In this course, you will implement desktop infrastructure.

Target Student:

This course is intended for IT professionals who need to design, deploy, and implement a Windows desktop infrastructure by using Windows Server 2012 in an enterprise environment. Students should have experience with administering previous Windows Server Operating system and completed their Windows 2012 Server certification (MCSA) or have equivalent skills.
This course helps you to prepare for the 70-415: Implementing a Desktop Infrastructure exam. This course is also the first in the series of two courses that help you to prepare for MSCE: Desktop Infrastructure certification.
To ensure your success, you should have experience in Windows Server, specifically in configuring, implementing, and managing the Active Directory and networking infrastructure within a Windows Server enterprise environment.
Before attending this course, students must have:

  • Sound knowledge of TCP/IP and networking concepts.
  • Sound knowledge of Windows and Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) concepts such as, domain user accounts, domain vs. local user accounts, user profiles, and group membership.
  • Good knowledge of scripts and batch files.
  • Sound knowledge of security concepts such as authentication and authorization.
  • Understanding of the client administration capabilities of Windows Server.
  • General understanding of management tools such as System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, System Center 2012 Operations Manager, and System Center 2012 Data Protection Manager.
  • Knowledge of imaging, packaging, and operating system deployment concepts.
  • Understanding of certificates and Certification Authority (CA) implementation and configuration.
  • Equivalent knowledge to Windows 2012 MCSA.
  • Experience administering Windows Server in a complex environment having the number of users in the range of 2,500 to 50,000 or above; multiple domain controllers and multiple physical locations; network services and resources such as databases, file and print, messaging, firewalls, Internet access, an intranet, and client computer management; capability for handing Windows 8 client desktops; and capability to deploy and manage both physical and virtual applications.

Course-specific Technical Requirements
For this course, you will need one computer for each student and one for the instructor. Each computer will need the following minimum hardware configurations:

  • Intel i3 or above or any standard processor capable of supporting 64-bit OS and Hyper-V.
  • 12 GB or more of RAM
  • 500 GB or above hard disk space
  • A Windows Server 2012-compatible network adapter.
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • Keyboard and mouse (or other pointing device)
  • 1024 x 768 resolution monitor recommended
  • Projection system to display the instructor's computer screen
  • Internet connectivity is mandatory for this course.
  • USB Flash Drive is required for an activity in Lesson 13.
